Indie Film Friday: The Big Short
The Big Short
Directed by: Adam McKay
Staring: Christian Bale, Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt
The Breakdown: Four denizens in the world of high-finance predict the credit and housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000s, and decide to take on the big banks for their greed and lack of foresight. (From IMDB)
My Review:
I was interested in seeing the film from the first time I heard about it but I missed it in theatres. Lucky for me it showed up on Netflix. I was worried when I first started watching it and they were using terminology in relation to the stock market that I have to admit I was worried I would get lost. However very quickly the film gave us a funny but informational guide, thank you Margo Robbie for explaining it. I think breaking the forth wall was done beautifully and the seriousness was not lost within the jokes and quirky performances. Not one actor let me down and the guest appearances of actors as themselves was done brilliantly. I understood what happened to the housing market but to have it explained so well gave me a better understanding of the full impact from the perspective of those who were involved. It is an amazing film and I really recommend it for anyone, you won't be disappointed.

Review of the Novel: Sasquana
Sasquana
By: Marlina Williams
Rating: 5 Glasses
This is not my first book from Marlina Williams, I wasn't disappointed the first time and I was not the second time. She builds a great fantasy world based around a boy that many teens can relate too and live through. The story is well thought out and brought to the pages with brilliance. It is a perfect book for the teen crowd and I look forward to more novels from Marlina.

Indie Film Friday: Sympathy, Said the Shark
Sympathy, said the Shark
Directed by: Devin Lawrence
Staring: Lea Coco, Melinda Cohen, Dominic Bogart
The Breakdown: When a young couple opens their door to a soaked, bloodied, and estranged friend they quickly discover that their night is going to get even stranger... Each person's perspective uncovers a darker secret until an even larger threat is right outside. (From IMDB)
My Review:
I was immediately fascinated with this film from the moment it was suggested to me. Normally when reading points multiple points of view can be difficult to track but I have never seen it used in a film before. I'm struggling to review because it is a thriller so I don't want to give away any details about the film for fear of spoiling the film. I will however comment on the multiple points of view format. I think that for this genre of film it was perfect, it added to the suspense. Getting each person's point of view when dealing with twists and mystery can bring so much more to the screen. That being said I don't think the format would work for other genres like, Action. I really hope this catches on and we get more thrillers like it.
